CPD
On 3/31/06 HAC, Greg Harris (Chief of Staff) for Alderman Mary Ann Smith, Lorraine Hoffman (a resident of one of the Sheridan Road buildings) and staff from the Chicago Park District met at the Meadows area behind 5415 N. Sheridan Road to discuss the possibility of Hollywoof's relocation to the Meadows.

Ms. Hoffman expressed concern that a DFA (dog friendly area) would be in her back yard, and that the Meadows is a place where families picnic and "pick up" games are played. Ms. Hoffman also could not understand why the original location could not be used and why the residents of one building could cause the tides to shift the DFA to the Meadows with many more residents being affected. CPD & Hollywoof were concerned that the DFA would be on the south side of the Meadows and too close in proximity to Puptown (Margate).

CPD presented a possible solution in the north area of the Meadows directly across from the back garden of the Edgewater Beach building (the pink building). If the DFA were located in that space, it would not be directly opposite a residential building - much like the original location. However, the problem with this new location is that it opens the doors for even more opposition as at least 4 buildings sit next to the Meadows and the Meadows is heavily used by non-dog owners.

In addition, there is no guarantee that Hollywoof would not have to start from scratch with petitioning, surveys of the site, etc.

Greg Harris indicated that 40% of the 48th Wards constituents own dogs and that there were several dogs playing in the area known as the Meadows that morning. Mr. Harris said that ASCO would have to take a position on the location of the DFA and that ASCO cannot remain neutral on the location of the proposed DFA anymore and that the "ball is in ASCO's court."

Mr. Harris has asked Sheli Lulkin (President of ASCO and is on the Board of Directors for the Lincoln Park Advisory Council) to make an unofficial inquiry as to the position the adjoining buildings would take on the matter.
ECC
Last week was the debut of the ECC Dog Patrol Units. The goal of this group is to encourage dog owners and non-dog owners to walk the streets of Winthrop and Kenmore between Granville and Berwyn to discourage loitering and illegal activities. The weather is beginning to warm and ECC expects to see more issues with loitering, etc. There's power in numbers and we hope you can join these weekly walks every Thursday at 6pm that meets at Swift Elementary (5900 N. Winthrop & Thorndale). Last week we had 8 dogs and 7 people walking.

If you cannot make the walks at 6pm, take a stroll earlier or later in the day and bring your cell phone in case you notice any strange activity. Contact ECC or visit our home page for more information!

In the past we have sent e-mail blasts regarding the ECC dog patrols and/or the Anti Cruelty Society. We have received some requests of concern as many of you receive plenty of "spam" as it is. It has been requested that you only recieve e-mails that pertain to Hollywoof. From hence forth we will include any non-Hollywoof information in our newsletters or on the Hollywoof site.
